The Wall (Die Wand) – 8/10

A woman finds herself cut off from the outside world by an invisible wall.

I found The Wall to be an engaging and unique piece of cinema which I interpreted to be about depression, relationships to other people and mostly about alienation and loneliness. I strongly felt that the main theme of The Wall is how it feels to be truly alone and how the human mind copes (or doesn’t) with such a premise. The Wall, whilst thought provoking is slow moving and relentlessly unchanging (which in itself can be seen as an allegory for loneliness) and I found some of the philosophy from the narrator a bit ‘perfume advert’ (nonsense). It did leave me wanting more however and I found myself looking into other peoples interpretations almost immediately after I finished watching.
