Promised Land – 7.5/10

Matt Damon works for a major natural gas company. He is sent to a small town to try to convince the locals to sell their land. Once there he meets opposition from John Krasinski (Jim Halpert for any fans of the American Office). Directed by long time Matt Damon collaborator Gus Van Sant and written by Damon and Krasinski this is obviously a passion project for everybody involved. There is a minor romantic sub plot but thankfully it plays second fiddle to the main plot. Frances McDormand and Hal Holbrook provide able support as you would expect. I am a massive fan of Matt Damon mainly because he can do the Bourne action blockbusters but he is equally at home playing an every day man as he shows here. It is nice to see Damon going back to these smaller projects.
