A man wakes up with no memory in a nightmarish world where it is always dark. Dark City is one of the most ambitious and imaginative films I have seen. Shades of both David Lynch and Terry Gilliam are present in this Alex Proyas directed sci fi/horror. The acting is competent throughout, particularly from Kiefer Sutherland but the real star is the city itself. The visual impact when the city starts to ‘change’ is breathtaking even by today’s standards (Dark City came out in 1998). Unfortunately it really lags in the middle when it is being a more conventional film noir. Definitely worth sticking with it though and the ending does the film justice.
